Stanford Seed Internship Program

United World Colleges

As an alumnus of the United World College of Costa Rica, I continue to be actively involved with the movement. Since 2016, I serve on the UWC National Committee of Botswana. I have streamlined the online application process for the committee to simplify the process for applicants and also for the application reviewers. I also oversaw the migration of the national committee website from its previous platform to the new one administered by the UWC International Office. In addition, I carry out standard committee member duties including reviewing applications and recommending applicants for nomination for placement to UWC schools around the world. I am also a part of a project to build an alumni network for UWC Botswana.

Since 2018, I have had the honor to serve as an adult mentor at the annual UWC USA Constructive Engagement of Conflict Retreat. . The CEC Retreat is a program under the Bartos Institute that seeks to provide students with a formal program that builds the skills of peacemaking, conflict resolution, goal-setting, and collaboration. My role as an adult mentor is to support the courage, vulnerability and boldness of the student leaders in a small group, rather than take over the leadership or facilitation of the group. As they describe it, I am a “keeper of the circle” and all I need to do is “put [my] arms around the circle”. I hope to continue to work closely with UWC USA during my time in the United States.

MasterCard Foundation - Scholars Program

My fellow MasterCard Foundation Scholars at Stanford have entrusted me with the privilege of being their representative at the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Council twice, first during 2016-17 and in 2018-19. During my first tenure, I served on the Social Exchange Committee (now renamed the Outreach Committee) and our mandate was to promote the "Give-Back" value of the Scholars Program. My team, which I chaired, coordinated the MCF Month of Service across the different partner institutions. The work of this committee resonated with me as I believe the more blessed we are, the more we should turn around and bless others who are less fortunate than us. In my second tenure, I served on the Alumni Engagement Committee. Our mandate was to help the Foundation in their efforts to build an alumni network across the African continent, and therefore catalyze the positive impact of a cohort of Africa's transformative leaders. I also served briefly as an interim representative to the Scholars Council for the 2019-20 session, while our newly elected representative took time off to focus on personal matters. In the interim period, I was on the Community Building Committee. This new committee was tasked with fostering supportive environments for scholars in the different partner institutions. This is especially important given the mental health crisis faced by students across various institutions.

Looking forward, I have no doubt that given the synergies between the strategy of the MasterCard Foundation and my own Long Term Vision (aka, my life purpose), I will continue to collaborate with the Foundation for years to come.

Organic Naturals Skincare

Organic Naturals is a start up company in Botswana founded by my childhood friend Didintle Moreki. Its focus is creating superior skincare solutions using natural ingredients that are indigenous to Botswana to empower the African woman. I am affiliated with them as a Seed Stage Investor and Advisor. With my academic training in Management Science and Engineering, plus my lived experience in Botswana, I advice the team on Strategy, Finance, and Operations. As an aspiring (Social) Venture Capitalist, Organic Naturals is my guinea pig where I expect to learn the complexities of doing business in Botswana. Especially, a business with a tangible product that hopes to scale around the country and eventually to the rest of the continent. It is a business that is closely aligned with my life's purpose of helping enable the creation and sharing of African Stories. One way they do this is through partnering with local women owned businesses in the marketing and distribution of their products.

Costa Rican International Model United Nations Leadership Network

Following a very successful Model United Nations career in Costa Rica, I was honored to be the second Global Ambassador (2015) for the Costa Rican International MUN Leadership Network. While the role was more symbolic than anything, it was a privilege to be the face of a conference that seeks to promote dialogue among young people on some of the pressing issues facing our world. Below is a video we created for the inaugural conference.

The Voice of Africa Botswana

I have worked with the Botswana branch of this organization, helping them with their fundraising campaigns on a few of their projects. The most notable one was their Red Fairy campaign in 2017 to provide menstrual hygiene products for disadvantaged girls in schools in parts of Botswana. The project was inspired by the desire to keep girls in schools. I was excited to work on this as it aligns with one of my social responsibility interests of making education accessible to the marginalized groups. To learn more about the work of TVOA, visit their website. I am proud that the Red Fairy campaign might have inspired politicians to consider providing free sanitary pads to girls in schools during the 2019 elections in Botswana. My hope is that this was more than just an elections campaign tool.

Stars Revealed

Until May 2018, I served on the Stars Revealed Team. Stars Revealed is a youth-run, web-based platform formed by one of my mentees and friend, Emang Rabogadi, back home in Botswana with the aim of empowering the youth and helping change the often-negative narrative about Africa. They primarily highlight youth excellence in Botswana and across the continent. I was invited to join the team where I helped them define their strategy and focus their mission. To learn more about Stars Revealed, visit their Facebook Page here. They have since rebranded and their website may be accessed here. I left the team as a result of my Reflection and Realignment Exercise, through which I derived my Strategic Goals for 2019-2024. I decided it was time to divest from it. I wish the team at Stars Revealed continued success. I remain open to collaborating with them on future projects as and when our interests align.
