Social responsibility to me is an integral part of good citizenship. This is especially true as we live in an increasingly interconnected world with a deep history of exploitative and oppressive socioeconomic systems. While I acknowledge that social responsibility is not enough, I concede it is a positive starting point. I recognize my energy and other resources are finite, and have therefore organized my social responsibility efforts around 2 causes closest to my heart: access to quality education for marginalized and historically oppressed groups AND sustainable participation in economic systems for marginalized and historically oppressed groups. Although my definition of marginalized and historically oppressed groups is broad and generous, my narrow focus is women and black communities.
