Studying Management Science and Engineering at Stanford, it is not hard to see how one can be drawn to entrepreneurship. While this program, and in fact the entire Stanford culture, seems to encourage entrepreneurship, it would be incorrect to say my entrepreneurial journey started at Stanford. It started way back in my childhood. The popular culture at Stanford portrays entrepreneurship to be the Elon Musks, the Steve Jobs, the Aliko Dangotes, and the Strive Masiyiwas. It is glamorous. While this page will only feature descriptions of entrepreneurial stories from outside formal employment, I have also had entrepreneurial experiences from within formal employment positions. I suppose it is called intrapreneurship.
Although these are what my mentor Tim would call side hustles, I also want to add that in the days of my early youth I used to sell candy and biscuits as a way to make money on the side. I also collected beverage bottles to return to the Coca-Cola company for deposits. If my mother was a trustworthy savings account, I would have been rich with the excess profits I gave her for safe keeping. But I am glad they helped around the house and helped provide a warm home that made everything I am possible.
